About me
Sgorbati’s philosophy matches a stunning realism with fiction and illusion. He’s a creative mind and a master of the “New Padan Surrealism”: the images created by the mind of this artist are filled with references and sleight of hand. A living oxymoron, devoted to the purest and most charming contradiction.
Sgorbati’s works are not meant to tell something about daily life forms, instead they aim to build new possible worlds. A triumph of creativity and utopia. In his latest works, the paintings play a key role in showing his mood: the visual impact is very strong and once again points out the expressive and emotional potential of the images. The new works by Emilio Sgorbati are precious jewels, resulting from surreal atmospheres and visionary paradoxes. Dreamlike characters and odd items animate his painting, telling mysterious and gentle stories.

After second post-war period, two great movements animated Piacenza painting: the Fantastic and Surrealism, which later became “Padano”. Sgorbati’s works, mostly inks on paper glued on wooden boards or painted directly on board, represent our liquid, differentiated society, sometimes deadlocked because of it’s distraction. The indistinct background of the works stands for a structural disarticulation of the compositional elements, that coexists between formal and semantic differences. Sgorbati updates the spirit of certain historical avant-gardes and takes up the postulates above all of Padan Surrealism.
