SGORBATI EMILIO
TITLE OF THE ARTWORK:
“UN CAVALLO DI LEGNO PER VOLARE VIA”
DESCRIPTION
The painting fully belongs to the themes of “Surrealismo Padano”, an artistic movement in which reality merges with dream, imagination, and the artist’s creative vision.
A fantastical wooden horse flies freely toward the sky, dragging with it the remnants of a world in ruins. The symbolic dimension of the work is precise and compelling, giving rise to spontaneous and profound reflections.
We are living in complex times: unrestrained consumerism, the urge to appear and to put oneself on display, the decline of fundamental values, along with gender-based violence and cultural intolerance, have created a persistent and mysterious void—one that the speed and frenzy of contemporary life can no longer fill.
Perhaps, then, the only choice is to fly away, to seek new and different worlds—fairer, more humane, yet still possible, if humanity truly desires them.
Truth or the triumph of utopia?
What is certain is that the painting, with its fantastical and surreal staging, first and foremost represents a clear and explicit invitation to break free from widespread conformity, from the superficiality of today’s communication, and from dominant trends that impose models and lifestyles. It calls for the full rediscovery of our autonomy and individuality, of our true and authentic freedom—to express our thoughts and reflections without compromise.
The painting becomes a narrative, offering with immediacy and emotional engagement the image of a transfigured reality, capable of turning into an inner vision—a journey through consciousness and human fragility.
